It will give you an overall picture of this wondrous sense, how it is connected to our memory and our emotions and how you can continue to explore the world of scent together with us at Veritume.

So to begin with, there are many different scent molecules floating around in the air. Maybe you've experienced the scent of freshly baked bread while passing by a bakery, or caught the smell of freshly washed clothes hanging to dry in the sun. These molecules are absorbed by our nose, and like a tunnel it leads the scent molecules up to our brain. Along the way, the scent molecules pass by the olfactory neurons located in our nose, these are also called smell nerves, which register the information from the scent molecules. This information is then sent from the smell nerves to amygdala and hippocampus, which are parts of our brains. Amygdala is the part that processes our emotions, also connected to the hippocampus where all of our memories and information we receive are stored.

This is why we can experience different, emotional reactions depending on what we're smelling. This is also one of the main reasons why we wanted to create Veritume - to give people the opportunity to bring a personal scent and the emotions associated with it wherever they might be.
